An ACLU Greeting?

I found this "ACLU Nativity Scene" when searching for a picture for a Christmas greeting. The funny thing is that the idea for this picture did not originate with the ACLU but with a Young Conserative group at a college in Texas. ULtimately another blogger took the idea and photoshopped a Nativity scene to produce it. I find it both humorous and a bit annoying, but I thought it was surely thought provoking! I will let you judge it for yourself.

The "conservatives" intended this to be a message of "if the ACLU has it's way this will be what Christmas is like". What they fail to understand is that the story of the Nativity is precisely this: that God was born in human flesh for ALL people - includin g the riff-raff, and the Marxists, and the abortionists, and the gays, and the... It's actually a point of the whole "shepherd and magi thing".

You know, this is something I really don't get about some conservative Christians. It's Christmastime, a time set aside to celebrate the humble birth of their savior and the first step towards total reconciliation with God. So what do they do? They create a faux "mockery" of the Nativity scene to decry the evils of the ACLU. To me, that's just tarnishing their own holy day by picking or continuing a fight. And it makes absolutely no sense to me.

Personally, I prefer spending my holy days celebrating them and sharing them with loved ones. I can worry about my so-called "enemies" (and fortunately, I don't have any as far as I'm concerned) on some less auspicious day.
